The battle for 2023 presidential ticket has set the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu and his political son, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on a collision course, Pointblanknews.com has gathered.
Tinubu is rumoured to be interested in contesting the 2023 presidential election. Osinbajo is also said to be interested in succeeding his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari.
It was however gathered that Osinbajo’s last trip to the United States was part of his clandestine moves to launch his 2023 Presidential bid.
He had gone to lobby President Donald Trump associates and Vice President Micheal Pence, a source said.
The vice president is said to be positioning himself as a Christian Pastor who would use his position to protect Christians in Nigeria, following the White House’s unfavorable disposition over the persecution of Christians by the Buhari presidency.
A source said the vice president has “positioned some Washington lobbyists to help in that regard.
According to Aso Rock insiders who confided in pointblanknews.com, Osinbajo is well supported by National Security Adviser (NSA) Ibrahim Monguno and has been using his relationship with Monguno to reach out to Buhari to persuade him to consider his aspiration having served loyally as a Vice president.
But before the US trip, the Vice President was alleged to have attempted to reduce Tinubu’s influence in the South-West when he ordered fresh primaries after the former governor of the Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode was defeated.
Osinbajo allegedly caused the clement Ebri team who conducted the primaries to depart the state and announce cancellations of the Governorship primary claiming a particular aspirant defaulted in the modalities for the election. He later upheld the result.
Sources said Tinubu had to pull some strings to have Ebri uphold the result. “Osinabjo wanted Ambode instead of Sanwo Olu, Tinubu’s choice.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that Osinbajo is the one pushing for Ambode’s name as Ministerial nominee. He is said to be building war chest and planning to give appointments to all those who had been allegedly sidelined by Tinubu.
“As the politics for the 2023 continues, Osinbajo might instigate the arrest of Tinubu if he continues to see him as a stumbling block by raising issues of corruption. He had been Tinubu’s lawyer and knows cases involving the former Lagos Governor,” the source stated.
