Kebbi Records 4,80 Roads Traffic Offences, 92 Accidents In 2019.

Kebbi state department  of roads traffic unit has said  that, from January to December of the 2019 has recorded at least 4,80 roads traffic offences and 92 roads accidents in Kebbi State.

Speaking  to journalist in his office in Birnin Kebbi, the director roads traffic unit, Lawal Garba Hamisu Gulma said the arrest was made by roads traffic officers otherwise known as VIOs through sustained operations on the state  roads, the chief VIO added that some of the offenders were prosecuted by court while others were advised and released depending on the degree of the offence they  committed.

On the challeges being faced by the traffic unit in the state, gulma said that  low personnel  is the major impediments  to their  operations, he explained  that  with enough  manower and logistics the unit can do very well, he pointed out that  through such operations the state can generate  alot of revenue.

He denied  allowing virsually impaired drivers to drive on the roads adding that such persons acquired  drivers licenses  through fraudulent  means not from them as they always conduct eye test on would-be drivers before they are issued  licenses , their work according to him is to train drivers on safe driving and  get them use to traffic rules and regulations  before  sending them to roads safety for issuance  after they must have paid the stipulated  fee to the board of internal revenue in kebbi State.

He stressed  that, the 92 accidents  records 29 are vehicles while 63 for motorcycles, as festives periods approaches, he said the unit have  intesified efforts to reduce accidents through  campaigns in motor parks and public places.

On the unit working relationship with other sister agencies he described  it as frank and cordial saying roads safety mans federal high ways while VIOs takes charge of state and local governments  roads, he called on the state  governor Senator Atiku Bagudu to employ  more staff for them and provide logistics to the unit come 2020.
